Blind horses, blind dogs, blind goats, and blind kittens have all found their way to Katie Ball. Here is what she has to say:
In my travels I have come across some of the most caring, warm-hearted pet lovers imaginable. I have come to the conclusion that we, the animal lovers, should come together and share our vision for a better world for our pets. My hope is to bring this pet community closer and allow pet owners to gain a better understanding of what's available for our pets. Please help us complete this great task.
Zoey was thrown from a moving car window at Kid's Kingdom and taken home by Q-97 Billy Pilgrim's son. Billy's wife is extremely allergic so he put a shout out for help on his radio station. Stan heard the shout out, in his heart he new this one was for him. She is a hand full, don’t let the sweet face fool you.
It
took the combined efforts of our entire family, round the clock, plus
the professional services of Cottonwood Vet and Chick Miller of Bellavista
Farms to save Tiny Baby. She was a ferral kitten, found wandering
up a driveway. When we got her, she could no longer eat or drink and
her eyes were filmed over so we thought she was blind. She was nothing
but skin and bones and could barely hold her head up. Now she's a
happy, healthy 4-year-old and she can see just fine.
The photo on the right is Pumba, at 3 weeks old, one of four bottle-babies. She weighed just 4 oz., at the time of her rescue. (Pumba turned out to be a boy, and now weighs 16 lbs.)
Another
rescue! This one I found under a tree in the chicken yard. I had never
seen anything like it. I couldn't find the nest it came from. Luckily,
I was out very early, but the poor thing was still cold. I warmed it up
and took it straight to Shasta
Wildlife, where they took it under their wing and identified it as
a green
heron. When I left, it had its mouth open, yelling for breakfast.
Here's Katie at the 2007 expo. She didn't slow down all day. This shot was taken by Michelle Mahood. She'll be at the show again in 2009, taking photos of pets and their favorite people.

Taffy, on the left, was a blind pony. She lived to be 47 years old. Saint, in the middle, enforces our No Smoking policy. If you bring cigarettes into his area, he'll steal them out of your shirt pocket and eat them. Lottie, on the right, had a stroke which left her blind in one eye and paralyzed on one side of her face. We lost Lottie in 2008 and Taffie in 2009.
Katie added Marley to the family in 2008. He was blind from birth. His story shows an outpouring of generosity and kindness that stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Here is Marley's Page.
This is Marley, recuperating from emergency surgery to repair stomach ulcers. That's his friend Colby. Both of these babies were born blind.
Katie found Lady with her brother and sisters on the side of the road fighting over a dirty diaper. We were able to place all of her siblings, but we were told to give lady a comfortable place to die, since there was nothing else that could be done for her. Lady just had her 10th birthday, and weighs 87 pounds. She went blind just before Christmas. If she had to lose her sight, she is at the perfect home it. She had some problems at first, but she is adjusting very well now.

These are my 10 Kitty Babies that I feed 3 times a week at Shasta College while I take my Vet Tech classes. It is a sight to see when they come running from all over campus when they hear my car and my voice.
