Pet Food Assistance Programs

If your food budget has outpaced your income, and you're having trouble finding the money for pet food, call your local humane society. They may be able to help. They might also be able to help with veterinary expenses--it can't hurt to ask. (For low-cost or free spay/neutering services, call way in advance--sometimes the waiting list can be several months long.)

Here is a growing list of programs to assist non-profits and low-income families with pet-related expenses. If you know of any others, please share.

(Many assistance programs use the federal poverty guidelines to determine eligibility. Here is their reference chart for 2018.)

Regional and Local Programs
Another Chance offers temporary pet food assistance for Northstate California residents.
Animal House Project (d/b/a Chester County Pet Food Pantry) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization on a mission to help companion pets stay at home and out of animal shelters by providing donated pet food and pet care services to pet families in financial need. We service families facing financial crisis in eastern Berks, Chester, and western Montgomery counties, Pennsylvania.

California Department of Social Services
The Assistance Dog Special Allowance (ADSA) Program provides a monthly payment of $50 to eligible persons who use a guide, signal, or service dog to help them with needs related to their physical disabilities. The allowance is to help pay the costs of food, grooming, and health care for the dogs. Must live in California.
Cascades Humane Society
For Jackson County, Oregon Residents. You can get food for up to 2 dogs and 2 cats.
