Love Your Pet Expo and North State Super Adoption Event

2015 Policies and Procedures for Rescue/Shelter Groups

1. All animals must be a minimum of 8 weeks of age, be healthy, vaccinated a minimum of one week prior to event and spayed or neutered a minimum of one week prior to the event. All animals must be microchipped. All dogs over 6 months of age are required to be Heartworm tested. All cats over 6 months of age are required to be FeLV/FIV tested. All kittens less than 6 months of age are required to be FeLV tested.

2. Paperwork will be checked and summary sheet must be completed by each group and made available to event representatives along with vet records at all times during the event.

3. Adoption policies are based on each individual group’s policies. Same day adoptions are not required, but are encouraged. All groups are required to respond promptly and professionally to post-adoption complaints or questions from adopters. All groups shall have some form of go home instructions as well as follow-up information for any animals that were recently spayed/neutered.

4. All animals must have cage cards completed with information visible at all times on cages/runs. Animals on hold must be marked “hold” to avoid confusion and frustration for adopters.

5. Groups will be responsible for their area and are required to keep it clean at all times. Each groups’ staff/volunteers need to be available during the entire event to answer questions and help adopters.

6. It is critical that all groups arrive early enough to setup and be ready to go by 10 a.m. there will be no vehicle movement allowed inside the gates past 9:30 a.m.

7. For the safety of the animals, any group not adhering to these policies may be asked to leave the event.

FEEDING and WATERING

1. All dogs and cats will be required to have access to fresh, clean water at all times. This includes animals in the holding areas as well as those in the adoption area.

2. It is recommended that food be available for any puppies or kittens under 6 months of age.

Checking in & Out:

Ÿ Group name and signature of group representative on master sign is sheet that will be at the Check-in table
Ÿ Total number of cats and dogs written on sign in sheet (please have number ready when checking in)
Ÿ Bring completed summary sheet for your animals and have vet records on hand for inspection

1. After this information has been filled out, volunteers at the check-in desk will show you where your designated area is located.

2. Veterinarians are authorized to inspect your animals at any time. If they feel that any animals are medically unfit to be shown (e.g., due to illness, or being too small or too young), they are authorized to ask you to remove these animals from the event. Any animals under 8 weeks of age will not be allowed – no exceptions. Additionally, any animal deemed to pose a risk to people or other animals by the expo staff or volunteer trainers shall be required to be removed from the event.

3. You must check out at the end of the day and provide final adoption numbers for both cats and dogs with volunteers at the check-out desk.

Spay/Neuter & Vaccination Policy

All animals must be spayed/neutered and vaccinated no later than one week prior to the North State Super Adoption Event. This includes juveniles.

Only animals that are spayed/neutered are permitted to attend the event even to be showcased. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Should a question arise as to the spay/neuter status of an animal, one of the veterinarians will give the final ruling on the appearance of a spay scar/castration status of a dog or cat. Should you use vasectomies in place of castrations, please have written certificate for each individual signed by the veterinarian who performed the vasectomy.

Health & Disease Control

1. For the health and safety of your animals as well as those from other participating agencies, it is not permissible to bring animals to the event that are currently on medications for any contagious disease, or a known parasite infection. (i.e. on Albon for diagnosed Coccidia, Panacur or Metronidazole for diagnosed Giardia, etc) The veterinarians will be given final say as to the fitness of an animal for adoption.

This rule does not preclude the dispensing of appropriate medication to an adopter for follow-up care of an animal where a second round of treatment is recommended but the first round has been completed (i.e. second dose of worming).

2. Routine procedures including, but not limited to, administering worming doses, vaccinations, and microchipping should be performed prior to arrival at the adoption even. Vaccinations and spay/neuter must be performed 1 week prior to event.

Adoption Checkout

All adopters are required to visit the adoption check-out booth after signing all appropriate paperwork with your group. The adopter will then receive any donated gifts that we have for adopters, complete a survey, and have their photo taken.

Adoption Procedures

1. This event is designed to provide numerous options to our community in one place and to find forever homes for a large number of animals that are currently in shelters and rescue groups. As such we feel there should not be any competition in the adoption fees. The fees will be a set amount and each organization will be required to adopt for this amount.

            a. All dog/puppy adoptions will be $75.00

            b. All Cat/Kitten adoptions will be $50.00

2. All groups will perform their own interviews.

3. All groups will use their own contractual agreements.

4. All groups must be able to accept returned animals (within a reasonable time frame dependent on each organizations own policies and procedures, but no less than 10 days).

5. Volunteers, not the public, should take the animals out of the cages.

What you need to bring for your animals:

1. Bring dog/cat food and dishes, and water bowls/buckets. All animals will be required to have access to water at all times whether in the holding area or adoption area.

2. All dogs and cats up for adoption need to be wearing a collar and identification that states what group the cat/dog is affiliated with.

3. Bring enough leashes for all of your dogs.

4. Bring proof of vaccinations, microchipping and testing (Heartworm for dogs and FeLV/FIV for cats) for cats and dogs (see the vaccination section) and list all animals on the summary sheet.

5. Bring a travel crate or suitable housing for all dogs and cats. The holding crates for cats should be large enough to hold the cat as well as small litter box and water dish. The holding crate for dogs must be large enough to comfortably house the dog and a water dish.

6. Approximately 100+ animals will be up for adoption at any given time. All groups need to be prepared with appropriate cages/crates equipment for their pets. Planning ahead and notifying us of the number of animals you are bringing will help all this run more smoothly.

7. Every cat is required to leave in a cat carrier of some sort. Please be prepared with carriers of your own to give or sell to adopters.

8. Bring snacks and water for your volunteers and staff.  Food vendors will be onsite to purchase food.

For your information

Recommended Items:

1. The weather is always questionable in Redding. It could be warm, or it could be raining. As such, we strongly encourage that all groups bring popup canopies of some sort to provide shade and/or shelter from the weather.

2. Tables and chairs required for each group to do paperwork etc. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide any tables and chairs, so groups will need to bring their own.

3. There will be a limited amount of fenced in “meet and greet” areas on site so we recommend bringing xpens and any other small areas you can setup to help facilitate visiting with your adoptable animals.
