Knit a Catnip Mouse.
Materials needed: 100% cotton yarn, size 8 knitting needles, tapestry needle, double "pinch" of catnip (about 1 tsp full).
Directions: Cast on 1 stitch, leaving a long tail (for stitching up the side later). Knit front and back of the first stitch in each row until you have 14 stitches (14 rows). Bind off, leaving a 2 1/2" tail.
Using your tapestry needle and the original yarn tail, stitch up the sides, making a cone. Stuff in the catnip and stitch the mouse closed.
Tie the 2 yarn tails together, tie a knot in the end, and snip off the ends evenly.
On the front end, thread a short length of yarn through and tie a square knot to make the nose. Snip off the ends about 3/4" long. Separate the yarn strands to make whiskers. DONE!
This project takes about 30 minutes. The mouse measures about 2 1/2 inches long.
